Get attendance policy implementation resources and guidance
The passage of Ohio's budget bill in 2025 shifted Ohio's attendance law from focusing almost solely on truancy to supporting students at risk of becoming chronically absent. Part of this refocus required schools and districts to adopt an attendance policy with specific requirements to address chronic absenteeism no later than Aug. 1. Refer to each local board of education's policies to learn more.
Find implementation support resources on this Attendance Support page. Resources include a model board policy to review and compare adopted local policy and the updated Ohio Attendance Guide, which emphasizes districtwide practices and prevention and early intervention.
